Cabinets come in three broad price/quality groups. transitions sells them all.
The most common is called "stock". The name implies they are "in-stock" but that's not necessarily the case. There was a time when mass- produced cabinets were inventoried by big lumber stores, two-step distributors and even some larger cabinet retailers. The advent of computer aided manufacturing has rendered inventorying cabinets nearly obsolete. "Stock" cabinets now simply means mass-produced cabinets. These sorts of cabinets are generally less expensive because of the economy of production, and they provide shorter lead times to delivery. The shorter lead time may mean sacrificing choices in terms of style, finish and permutations of sizes but not to worry, we can design virtually anything in Diamond Cabinetry (our stock cabinetry line) for you.

Semi-custom cabinets can mean many things to folks in our industry but to best understand semi-custom, I think you need to understand custom cabinets. When we mention custom, you might think of the grizzled old carpenter measuring your space and going back to his shop to make your kitchen cabinets with his planes and chisels. I guess those guys may still exist. But even the custom "garage" type cabinet shops are some what sophisticated comparatively. Custom cabinetry really means you have more choices. Our custom manufacturers can be production manufacturers or very modest in scope. The commonality to custom is they will do color matches, virtually any color you can imagine, they manufacture their own components and, importantly to me, will make anything I can draw. The reason we have several custom manufacturers in our array is, they do different things well and sometimes better than the other. For example, Ovationshand selects material and hand finishes your kitchen. Mouser is a huge custom manufacturer and because of their scale, Mouser can deliver custom materials at very fair prices, very short lead times and again with terrific finishes and customized looks. Both will do the inset profiles as well.

Now. Semi-custom cabinetry bridges the gap between custom and stock cabinetry. Our semi-custom lines are Decorá and Luxury Line by Teddwood. Semi-custom cabinetry offers more styles and finishes and more permutations of sizes than stock, at a nominal price differential. And the lead times are ½ that of custom cabinetry. In short, some of the best features of stock cabinetry and the best features of custom cabinetry are combined to create semi-custom cabinetry.
